Tashkent to Samarkand by Afrosiyob train
By Learmara Team
In brief
How to book the high-speed train, which station to use, and how to get from Samarkand station to your room.
Which trains run the route
Three types of train connect the two cities: the Afrosiyob high-speed train (fastest), the Sharq (slightly slower and cheaper) and regular passenger trains. For most visitors, the Afrosiyob is the best choice.
How to buy tickets
Tickets are sold on the official Uzbekistan Railways website and app, and at station ticket offices. You need your passport details to book. Trains are popular, especially in spring and autumn, so book as early as you can — tickets often sell out several days ahead.
Departing from Tashkent
Most trains to Samarkand leave from Tashkent's main station (Tashkent Vokzal). Arrive at least 30 minutes before departure: there is a security check at the entrance and passports are checked before boarding.
Arriving in Samarkand
Samarkand station is on the northern side of the city, around 15–20 minutes by car from the centre. Official taxis and ride-hailing apps work well, but the simplest option is a transfer: we meet you at the station and bring you straight to your room.
Tips for the journey
- Keep your passport with you; it is checked on board.
- Business class is worth considering on busy days for extra space.
- Snacks and drinks are available on board, but carrying water is a good idea.
- Tell us your train number when you book, and we will time your transfer.
